Lara Almárcegui is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Repair and Occupy an Abandoned Boat was produced through Index (Stockholm 2003) on the occasion of a solo exhibition.

I found a place that did not square with any definition of space in a city where every space is absolutely regulated and nothing seems to be left to chance: it was a boat, left in a park that looked more like a shed than a boat. To show my interest in this type of construction, I decided to restore the boat: clean it, repair it and paint it to make it into a cosy place and, finally, use it. In the same way the boat "occupied" public space being placed in the park, I was occupying public space placing myself in the boat.

J'ai trouvé un endroit qui n'avait rien de commun avec un espace urbain tel qu'on le définirait, espace urbain systématiquement régulé où rien n'est laissé au hasard : c'était un bateau, laissé dans un parc, qui avait plus l'aspect d'une baraque que celui d'un bateau. Pour marquer mon intérêt pour ce type de construction, j'ai décidé de restaurer ce bateau : le nettoyer, le réparer et le repeindre pour le transformer en un endroit cosy et finalement l'utiliser. De la même façon que ce bateau "occupait" l'espace public en étant placé dans un parc, j'occupais cet espace public en me plaçant dans ce bateau.

Etienne Cliquet

Etienne Cliquet, né à Boulogne-Billancourt (France) en 1971, vit et travaille en banlieue parisienne. Il préside le collectif numérique et artistique Téléférique, et enseigne les nouvelles technologies à l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse.

Etienne Cliquet est diplômé de l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (1998) et a participé au post-diplôme du Collège Invisible de Marseille (2001). Récemment, il a produit "Les distants et formes transmissibles" exposé sur le site web du Magasin-CNAC de Grenoble. Il a, entre autres, publié le texte "Lisible" -texte critique sur l'Accord Général sur le Commerce des Services (AGCS) et ses conséquences pour les artistes - diffusé lors du colloque "Programmation orienté art" organisé par le Centre de Recherches d'Esthétique du Cinéma et des Arts Audiovisuels (CRECA) à la Sorbonne.

Etienne Cliquet was born in Boulogne-Billancourt (France) in 1971 and lives and works outside of Paris. He is president of the digital and artistic collective Téléférique, and teaches new media at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse.

Etienne Cliquet received his diploma from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1998, and undertook post-graduate studies at the Collège Invisible in Marseille in 2001. Recently he produced "Les distants et formes transmissibles" for presentation in on the Magasin-CNAC web site. He has published several texts, including "Lisible", a critical essay on the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and its consequences for artists. This essay was presented during the conference "Art oriented Programming" organised by Centre de Recherches d'Esthétique du Cinéma et des Arts Audiovisuels (CRECA) at the Sorbonne, Paris.

Maura Doyle

Maura Doyle is a multidisciplinary artist who lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Planet Earth.   She is currently participating in a residency in Vancouver as part of the Or Gallery's 2005 summer programming Out of Office Reply. She is looking into local geology through the study of erratic boulders.

Maura Doyle est une artiste pluridisciplinaire vivant à Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Planète Terre. Elle est en résidence à Vancouver où elle participe actuellement à Out of Office Reply, programmation estivale 2005 de la Or Gallery, rassemblant plusieurs artistes. Claude Lévêque

Claude Lévêque, né à Nevers (France) en 1953, vit et travaille à Montreuil (Seine Saint Denis Style). Expositions récentes (2005) : HERR MONDE installation in situ pour 'Minevent' de Merce Cunningham, Opéra de Paris, Palais Garnier; présentation du néon PLUIE POURRIE, exposition Cohabitats, Galerie Ghislaine Hussenot, Paris; RUMEUR, galerie de multiples, Paris; LE VISITEUR installation in situ Palais des Arts Grossen Garden, Dresden. Expositions en cours : présentation de l'installation BAADER MEINHOF dans l'exposition 'Zur Vorstellung des terrors : Die RAF-Austellung', Kunst-Werke, Berlin (29 janvier-22 mai) et, VINAIGRE, L.A.C., Sigean (9 avril-22 mai). Il est également auteur d'inserts et d'imprimés (tels des drapeaux, affiches, brochures et catalogues). Chris Lloyd

Chris Lloyd graduated in 1999 from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada. Between 2001-2003 he was director of the Khyber Centre for the Arts in Halifax, NS. Since 2001 he has been writing daily email to the Prime Minister of Canada while trying to become the official PM portrait painter. He has had solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (2003) and the Art Gallery of Calgary (2005) and participates in many group exhibitions across the country. He relocated to Montréal in 2004.

Chris Lloyd est diplômé, en 1999, du Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada. Il a occupé le poste de directeur du centre d'artistes autogéré The Khyber Centre for the Arts, à Halifax, entre 2001 et 2003. Depuis 2001, il écrit quotidiennement au Premier Ministre du Canada et aspire à en devenir le peintre officiel. Chris Lloyd a présenté son travail dans le cadre d'expositions individuelles au Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Nouvelle-Écosse (AGNS) en 2003, ainsi qu'à la Art Gallery of Calgary, en Alberta, en 2005. Il participe, en outre, à plusieurs expositions de groupe à travers le pays. Il s'est installé à Montréal en 2004.

public works

public works is an art/architecture collective founded by architects Sandra Denicke-Polcher, Torange Khonsari, Andreas Lang and artists Kathrin Böhm and Stefan Saffer, who have been collaborating in different constellations since 1998. The public works contribution within the Commons Service Group project is by London-based Kathrin Böhm, Andreas Lang, and Satoshi Isono.

All public works projects address the question how users of public space are engaging with their environment and how design and programmatic strategies can support and facilitate physical, economical and social infrastructures in the public realm. public works' art and architecture collaboration employs the methodology of art-led processes to explore how existing social dynamics can inform spatial, architectural and urban proposals.

Antje Schiffers

In the Mexican village of Chicahuaxtla Antje Schiffers worked on a register of flowers, like an old-fashioned expedition botanist would have done (1997-1999). She made oil-paintings of farms in northern Germany and gave them to the farm owners in exchange for videos in which they filmed and explained their way of living and their work (2000) http://www.myvillages.org . She travelled through Italy (2001) and through Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan (2002) as an itinerant painter offering to make pictures in exchange for room and board.
