I was born in Moldova in 1980, a small state that was forced in 1945 to become a part of former USSR, which fact determined considerably its later on development up to today. Mass deportations of intellectuals and resistant to the new regime individuals, forced collectivization, large emigration, denaturalization of the Romanian language and introduction of the Cyrillic alphabet, the process of russification combined with denationalization and humiliation of the local population, secession of the country by cutting it off the Black Sea, establishment of the economical dependence of Moldova by outsourcing its production units in Transnistrian region and Ukraine, restricted education, soviet propaganda, censorship and control are several facts illustrating the planned in detail live experiment directed by Moscow executors under the rule of the communist party.
Even today in Moldova is registered a particular atmosphere characterized by a long distance and isolation from the different spheres of development abroad. Facing a situation in which local resources do not allow Moldovan population to overcome the existentialist problems this generates a lack of critical analyses and discourse (making exception a small number of initiatives undertaken mainly by the civil society) related to the local and global state of things, particularly to the field of contemporary art.
That's why, besides my privileged choice to embrace the artistic activity and become a student first at the Republican Art Lyceum and then at the Academy of Arts in Chisinau, I decided to enter the Invisible College Moldova, then to continue at the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro and today to join the team of the International Curatorial Training Program organized within MAGASIN in Grenoble.
As a premise for my itinerary was the establishment in 2000 of the Moldova Young Artists Association Oberliht (http://www.iatp.md/oberliht) that I direct until the present moment – an organizational structure that allowed me together with a group of artists and colleagues to initiate a certain number of art projects mainly on national level and thus to get acquainted with the curatorial and managerial activities in the field of arts, which fact makes me think of myself as of an artist and curator.
Coming from a society lost in between 2 systems with 2 differently developed scales of values, on one side totalitarian/communist ones and on the other side wild economical/capitalist ones I see my entire itinerary as representing a single wish – to elaborate a proper scale of values that would allow me to give verticality to my own discourse by questioning on the way everything that passes in front of my eyes.
So far I should mention the contemporary arts, the artist and the society / curating / management and organized activity / philosophy of sharing, communication, mobility / multicultural dimension and acceptance of the other / principles of knowledge transfer and information / innovation and new technologies, which represent a number of issues I am particularly interested in. |
